review 1: Rating: 3.5 - 3.75Yancey's writing exceeded my expectations, being descriptive and imaginative. I loved the premise and plot of the story although I generally disliked a majority of the adult characters in the book. I enjoyed how everything in the book tied up neatly in the end and how certain items or small incidents were referenced and implied to have greater meaning behind them. Wasn't originally planning on picking up the rest of the series but I am curious to give it a go.
review 2: This book was quite an interesting read! It has an interesting story that follows a young orphaned boy and a sort of mad scientist who studies monsters, mainly ones with no heads and mouths in the stomachs. The book has plenty of gore and violence in it for a Young Adult novel,
... more especially the scene at the mental hospital. I thought the story flowed well although at points I did get a little iffy on material wise, but overall a very interesting read. I may pick up the rest of the series if I get the time. less

It was good but a bit too long for me. At points it just felt draggy.
