The framers of The Constitution thought the personal right to bear arms to be a paramount right by which other rights could be protected. Therefore, James Monroe included "the right to keep and bear arms" in a list of basic "human rights", which he proposed to be added to the Constitut... moreion. This right is now known as "The Second Amendment". This book shows that The Second Amendment (the right to keep and bear arms) is necessary to protect the other rights. I believe it's not so much a right of the people but more a restriction on the government as are all the rights in first Ten Amendments to the Constitution or as they are better know "The Bill of Rights". This is one of those books where there is no middle ground. If you like it you will love, if you don't you will hate it. I for one loved it. While the book is well written and the story is good and the people in it are real it is the message within the story and whether you agree with it or not that will determine whether you love or hate the book. Either way this book is sure to get a strong opinion of it from you.
review 2: The Second Revolution by Gary Hansen is an interesting book. You can read it just for entertainment value or you can read it and really think about what it is saying. I appreciate the fact that the author does not get into political parties, even the rogue president is an independent. He is more or less using a hot political topic to make us think - about our country, about the constitution, about our complacency with our government and leaders, about how willing any of us might be to take a stand for what we feel is right. The only problem I had with the book was the fact that women had no part in the revolution and I feel women would be just as quick if not quicker to take a stand against anything they felt was threatening them and their families. Other than that I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. less
